Regarding helping people with things.

So earlier today, an fc member made a few comments about Odd Jobs that bothered me. This member's comments were made in a linkshell I don't think they knew I was a part of, and thus, seemed to be what was on their mind exactly.

I can't quote it directly, because my memory is shit, but the gist of it was:

"These people can't be bothered to help anyone out, unless you're a member of one of their 'cliques.'"

Now, I spend a LOT of time helping other people out every day, and I know for a fact that some of the others do too. As a matter of fact, I feel like the rate of assistance has gone up in the past two or three weeks. Every time I see someone assist a newer/lower-level fc member, it reminds me what a great fc we have.

Not everyone helps out as much as I'd like, but that's the way it goes, I guess. You pay for this game like anyone else, and it's your choice what you do with your time. That being said, if everyone makes at least two hours a week helping someone out, that would rock, and get some of our people up to endgame level faster. That means more Coil-ready players, and overall satisfaction with both the game and with Odd Jobs.

As far as the 'clique' comment, that's pretty much straight bullshit. I know I do things with around 75% of the active members of the fc. The rest are active when I'm sleeping. If you feel at all like there's truth to this statement or have any other issue with Odd Jobs that you feel is presenting a problem to you as a player or as a person, don't go making wild accusations to other people. BRING IT TO ME. I'm here to listen, and if there's anything I'm good at, it's being reasonable and fair.

Well it seems no one else wants to reply to this thread. But I will.
Tom. For starters. I've never seen anyone help as much as you do. Your awesome for that. But.. I have received comments on 'a inner circle' of people in the FC and I do believe there kind of is one.. It doesn't include you. But there is a certain group that stick together. And that's always gonna happen. Because people invite the RL friends to play. And those people stick together. They do endgame content together. It's not something you can stop from happening people are always gonna feel like they're nt a part of that 'circle' there's plenty of people in the FC that help people that need it. I can usually find a group of FC folk to help me even at my weird times. So it's not exactly a major issue.
I guess what I'm trying to say is people are always gonna feel pushed out at some point. I don't agree with the moaning in a link shell though. Guess that's abit harsh.
But your doing a great job Tom. And hopefully the inner circle idea will be forgotten. I personally believe there is kind of one. But it's not my concern. My times make it so I wouldn't be able to be included in that group even if I wanted to.

That's my two cents anyway. (I don't want this to cause arguement) I just thought I'd put in my opinion on the situation.

Even though the person is quite wrong, I can understand why he feels this way. It's quite natural, actually. We can say a "clique" (in this setting) = persons you play the most with. Sometimes people are asking fom help when you're busy with your own stuff, but for people you play a lot with and has helped you a lot, the chance of you abandoning your own stuff to help out is bigger.

Many other stuff counts in as well.

Titan HM: I don't remember the amount of people I've carried through- I'm getting really tired of the fight which results in me helping a little less out.
AK: For those who was farming myth and philo before they made everything easy with buffing wp and stuff- this place is a place you would NEVER EVER go to.
WP: Why run old content when we have so much new stuff?
Hydra / Chimera: only 2-3 members from the FC will help you? Maybe you should think about most are helping out with this shit on a daily basis.

There's also a thing named party finder. So don't be lazy and use it. Get some people in and FC members will fill out the spots. I'm pretty reluctant helping people that just assumes to get a full FC party for stuff within a minute.

I generally try to help everyone when and where I can, but honestly sometimes I just don't feel like it; either because I'm doing my own thing, or because I don't feel well, or frankly I hate the dungeon/fight in question... or you know, I have that pesky work/bedtime thing looming. I know that's an awful lot of excuses there, but there are also times when someone will call for help, and I'm on it, no prob, or I wrap up what I'm doing, and THEN I'm on it.

I DO kinda know how the person feels after a fashion, because if they're dps, that means they're gonna be waiting in the DF FOREVER, and it's frustrating as all hell, but you either just have to stick with it, or try calling for help again later. I've FREQUENTLY put off doing shit I needed until people had free to help me shorten the queue. It's frustrating yeah, but you can't always have EVERYTHING you want RIGHT when you want it. you kinda gotta roll with the punches, and not be a jackass.

I played dps the whole time since beta and actually even in the beginnings it didnt exist something like dutyfinder etc and even with it, it happened often and still that i have to wait an hour - so that happens if u dont want that to happen change class/job.

I did everything on my own without relying on FCs (and i still have been in many FCs) - till the coil raids - so it is good to have an FC and maybe some members which can help out , but its not a duty to hold hands for peeps or to let everything lay down for others.

People do what they want, when they want. Its that simple. If they want to help, they will. And in all honesty, they don't need t If they don't, they don't. Now I consider the fc a pretty helpful bunch, but people will ultimately play how they want. That being said, assuming people can't be bothered to help because its not on their time is straight bull shit.

I'm new to this FC so obvs I dont have all round view of it's history or even who is good friends with who or whatever but iv'e thought about this for a while and here's my view.

This game is not a JOB. We play it cause we have fun doing so.... Right? I fail to see what the real issue is here. Everyone is invested in their own characters progression first and foremost, this makes perfect sense and in no way makes anyone a selfish person. Yes times have come when ive asked if people wanted to party for some thing or another and no ones answered - that doesn't then mean that they never do. An expectation that everyone in the FC should drop whatever they are doing to come join your party to run whatever you want is selfish on your own part.

That being said we probably wouldn't even be having this conversation if we just communicated with each other Many a time i see someone ask for a party for something, theres 15 people online.... no one answers... now thats where I think that maybe silly issues like this start - that person thinks no one could be bothered to help when in fact 8 people could be in coil, 4 in another dungeon and the 3 could be afk - when no one says anything - that's when stupid deductions are made.

We all know that Odd Jobs IS A HELPFULL FC, infact that shouldn't even be up for debate. You can't expect people in any FC to help you with every little thing you do, some people are sick of some content some people just outright dislike some dungeons, I personally hate TITAN HM, and the odds of me doing that with anyone are close to zero.

As for Cliques within the Fc, thats a silly word to use, yes there are closer groups of friends and obviously you'd help a closer friend out first right? If there were "cliques" they would only each other out and that's not the case.

Everyone in this FC seems like a nice helpful person, I don't know much of you too well but I can say I'm 100% sure no one is a dick, so lets be over this trivial shit put it behind us and get on with enjoying playing the game.

Lol indeed, bravo Jajuno. Not much else to be said I think, if some one really is having a problem with the level or amount of help offered in the FC then they should bring it to Tom or an Officer or honestly the FC in general. We have plenty of forums (see what i did there) to discuss such things on and a random linkshell is the last place to discuss it because even if such problems do exist it doesn't help fix them to not discuss it with the people in question.

Honestly, making comments like that in an LS that you don't think anyone in the FC is part of, is just someone being a jerk. Like Kanda said, you take that shit to someone that CAN and WILL actually do something about it, not go whine at a bunch of people that won't be able to help anyway... Yeah j was surprised by arya's I'm not running WP cos it's old content. I'll happily run it to help new members to get their gears up. Still gives tomes so it's still an option in my eyes.
